Futhark privacy policy

Futhark is available on iOS and Android. This policy covers what Futhark does with your information on both. Where the two differ, it says so.
Futhark Keyboard
Futhark includes an optional runic keyboard. You add it in iOS Settings or turn it on in Android Settings. Your privacy while typing matters, so the keyboard is designed to know as little as possible.
- What you type stays private. The keyboard does not record, store or transmit anything you type. It only inserts runes into the text field you’re using.
- No connections, ads or analytics. The keyboard does not connect to the internet, and contains no ads or analytics.
- What it remembers. The keyboard saves only your chosen alphabet and preferred rune shapes, on your device, so it matches your settings in the Futhark app.
- Full Access (iOS). iOS may ask you to allow Full Access. Futhark uses it only to share those settings between the app and the keyboard. The keyboard works without Full Access, but it will open on the default alphabet.
- Android’s keyboard warning. When you turn on any keyboard that didn’t come with your phone, Android warns that it may be able to collect everything you type. Every third-party keyboard gets that warning. Futhark’s keyboard does not collect your text, and it needs no extra permissions.
You can remove the keyboard at any time:
- iOS: Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards.
- Android: Settings › System › Keyboard › On-screen keyboard. The exact path varies by device.
Advertising
If you haven’t bought Futhark Pro or removed ads, Futhark shows ads from Google AdMob. Where the law requires it, for example in the UK and EU, you’re asked for consent before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time in Futhark’s Settings. AdMob may use your device’s advertising identifier:
- iOS: only if you allow tracking when Futhark asks.
- Android: you can reset or delete it in Settings › Privacy › Ads.
Buying Pro or Remove Ads turns ads off completely.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by the App Store on iOS and Google Play on Android. Futhark never sees your payment details. It only learns which purchases are active on your account.
Your saved data
Your favourites, saved designs, readings, learning progress and settings are stored on your device. They are never sent to us.
- iOS: this data syncs between your devices through iCloud, if you have iCloud turned on.
- Android: this data is included in your device’s backup to your Google account, if you have backup turned on.
Both are managed by your own Apple or Google account.
Try It On photos
Photos you take or choose for Try It On are processed on your device. They are only shared if you choose to share them.
Apple Intelligence (iOS only)
On supported devices, Futhark’s rune readings, suggestions and phonetic spelling use Apple Intelligence. What you enter is processed privately on your device and isn’t sent to us.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
