Apron privacy policy
Last updated on
This policy covers the Apron app on iPhone and iPad. It explains what data Apron collects, why, and the choices you have. The tristanjarrett.com website has its own separate policy.
Summary
Apron stores your kitchen data in your account so it can sync between devices and with your household. Apron shows no ads, doesn’t track you across other apps and never sells your data. Anonymous analytics and crash reports help keep the app working well. Deleting your account deletes your data.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your name, email address and a user ID.
- If you sign up with email, your password is handled securely by Firebase Authentication and is never visible to us.
- If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple shares your name and email, which may be a private relay address.
- Guest use. You can use Apron without creating an account. Your data is still saved to the cloud under a random ID.
- Content you create.
- Pantry items, including quantities, storage type, and expiry and purchase dates
- Shopping lists
- Recipes, folders and tags
- Meal plans
- Frequent ingredients
- Photos. Only the images you choose for your recipes.
- Household information. The household’s name, its invite code, each member’s role, and members’ names and emails.
- Purchases. Your subscription status, which is checked through Apple’s App Store. We never receive your payment details.
- Diagnostics and usage. Collected through Google Firebase:
- App usage events and session information
- Device model, operating system and app version
- Approximate region
- Crash reports and performance data
- On your device. Basic app preferences.
Device permissions
- Camera. Used only to scan barcodes. Scanning happens on your device, and no images are saved or uploaded.
- Photo library. Apron can only access the images you choose.
You can change either permission at any time in iOS Settings.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Run the app and sync your data
- Enable household sharing
- Check your subscription status
- Answer support requests
- Find and fix crashes and improve performance
We don’t use it for advertising or profiling, and we never sell it.
Third-party services
- Google Firebase. Authentication, database, photo storage, analytics, crash reporting and performance monitoring.
- Apple. Sign in with Apple and App Store purchases.
- Open Food Facts. When you scan a product, only its barcode number is sent so the app can look up the product name.
- Email. If you contact support, your message goes to hello@tristanjarrett.com.
Household sharing
- Everyone in a household can see and edit its pantry, shopping lists and meal plans, and can see each other’s names and email addresses.
- The household owner can remove members.
- Your recipes stay private to you.
- Only share your invite code with people you trust.
Storage and security
- Your data is stored on Google Cloud through Firebase and is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Access rules make sure only you, and your household for shared items, can reach your data.
- Your data may be processed outside your country, with appropriate safeguards in place.
Retention
- Your content is kept for as long as your account exists.
- When you delete your account, all data linked to your user ID is removed automatically.
- Analytics data is kept for a limited period, and crash reports for about 90 days.
Your rights and choices
- In the app, you can edit or delete any item, leave a household, sign out, or delete your account (Settings › Account › Delete Account).
- Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, receive a copy of, or object to the use of your data. Contact us to use these rights.
Legal basis (UK and EU)
- To provide the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests, for diagnostics and security.
- Your consent, for camera and photo access.
Children
Apron isn’t intended for children under 13, or under 16 in the EU, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. We’ll also tell you about any significant changes in the app.
